The Revolution Starts in the Earth, with the Self by Jess X Snow x Gavriel Cutipa-Zorn, Westminster St., Rhode Island (2019).

A Jess x Snow collaboration with doctoral candidate Gavriel Cutipa-Zorn for The Avenue Concept emerges in Providence, Rhode Island. “The Revolution Starts in the Earth, with the Self” is a mural depicting queer Palestinian organizer Amira and queer Guatemalan organizer and abolitionist Vanessa Flores-Maldonado as two separate natural entities merging into one. The root of Amira’s head is bound by a Palestinian bird and Vanessa’s is paired with a quetzal – a signature bird commonly found in South & Central America.

The Survivor Love Letter muralist, Snow, considers the mural to be a love note to the city and a nod to nature. In addition, it conveys a dual message of identity and borders, while conveniently bordering the city’s West End and Federal Hill neighborhoods.
