Shirley Chisholm mural | Trending-in.com

A Shirley Chisholm mural by Danielle Mastrion (@daniellebknyc) marks the entrance of New York City’s newest and largest state park, named after our first Black female congresswomen. In 1968, Shirley became the very first Black female to ever be elected to the United States congress. Soon, she made history again by becoming the first Black congresswoman and serving a seven-year term.

East New York celebrates her groundbreaking accomplishments by unveiling the Shirley Chisholm mural and opening Shirley Chisholm State Park – a 407-acre state park featuring 10 miles of biking and more than 35,000 planted trees, shrubs and native grassland species.
