Key to Life by Camille Cote, Central Ave., Newark, NJ (2019)

Haitian-born Newark native, Wyclef Jean, is a musical icon and the city of Newark honors his impact with a 20-foot mural entitled Key to Life by Englewood artist Camille Fabs Cote (@lecogoyote). Shortly after the success of his 90s Newark rap-trio, The Fugees, Wyclef pursued a solo career and gave us classics like, “Gone til November”, “Tryin’ to Stay Alive” and “911” featuring Mary J, Blige.

Did you know that Wyclef taught himself to play over 15 instruments? With the piano being only one of several, the piano keys are a central focus in this Wyclef Jean mural in Newark’s Fairmount neighborhood.
